Disease prevention and H1N1

May 11, 2009

The Consulate has reevaluated its policies on disease prevention in light of the global H1N1 Influenza A virus outbreak.  Though the new virus has not been confirmed in India, threats from other diseases exist here.  People who are sick with contagious illnesses can inadvertently infect others around them, including our staff.  In the interest of all, we have instituted the following policy with immediate effect:

If you are ill on the day of your appointment, please do not come in to the Consulate.  For nonimmigrant visa applicants, send us an email ONE DAY PRIOR TO Y OUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT at mumbainiv@state.gov and for immigrant visa applicants, send us an email at mumbaiiv@state.gov, and we will reschedule you for another day with no additional fee once you are feeling better.  Please put “ill, request new appointment date” in the subject line.
