Required Documents and Fees

Documents Required for a Nonimmigrant Visa

The following documents are mandatory for all nonimmigrant visa applications. For further information on applying for specific types of visas, please click here.

  • A fully completed and signed Visa Application Form DS-156.
  • A fully completed and signed Form DS-157.
  • In addition to the above forms, persons applying for F1, M1, or J1 visas need to submit a fully completed and signed application form DS-158.
  • One recent (within the past six months) passport size photograph 50mmX 50mm (2" x 2") with a white or off-white background.  Please click here for photo requirements.
  • A passport valid for travel for at least six months after the date of entry in to the U.S.
  • Demand drafts for each applicant, as outlined below.

Nonimmigrant visa application fee (non-refundable)

The Application Fee (MRV fee) can be paid at a participating HDFC bank in cash or by demand draft favoring "US Embassy - Visa Fees".

Logistics Fee (VFS Service Charge, inclusive of service tax @ 10% and education cess tax @ 0.2%) payable in cash or by DD/HDFC Bank check favoring "HDFC Bank a/c VFS." Logistics fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Demand drafts issued by cooperative banks are not accepted.

The Consulate does not accept documents by fax. Applicants must bring the original documents with them to the interview.
