Consulate General Mumbai’s Public Affairs section organized talks by Dr. Omar Khalidi, a scholar at Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Washington, D.C., in Mumbai, December 16-17, 2009.  Dr. Khalidi spoke knowledgeably on the topic of “Islamic Architecture in the USA” at Rizvi College of Architecture, and on “Muslims in America after the Obama Election” at the Islamic Studies Department of St. Xavier’s College.  Interacting with approximately 225 faculty members, students, Muslim community leaders, and the media, the U.S. expert highlighted how American Muslims from over 80 countries of the world have successfully called the USA their home.  Dr. Khalidi detailed the increasingly important role American Muslims play in U.S. society, culture, and politics, and how the Obama administration is committed to build mutual trust and partnership with Muslims within and outside the U.S.
