U.S. Independence Day Celebration 2009
U.S. Consul General Paul A. Folmsbee hosted a celebration reception on July 4, 2009 commemorating the United States’ 233rd Independence Day. The Chief Guest of the evening was the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Mr. Johny Joseph. Highlights of the evening included a special appearance by National Basketball Association (NBA) star Baron Davis and the singing of the national anthems by choirs from St. Andrew’s College and the Salvation Army. The Consul General also congratulated the American Center logo contest winner, Ameet Mehta, and Democracy Video Challenge finalist, Akash Mohimen. Guests, representing the broad spectrum of western India society, came together to celebrate the strong friendship between the U.S. and India, as well as the anniversary of the U.S.’s independence. As 2009 is the bicentennial year of Lincoln's birth, his life and legacy were featured at the event. (Photos)
