World Jazz Music in Ahmedabad
Freddie Bryant (with guitar) and Gilad Dobrecky (blue shirt) interact with students at a music workshop in Ahmedabad.
Guitarist Freddie Bryant and percussionist Gilad Dobrecky are touring western India as part of a multi-city tour in India. On the eve of African-American History Month, their jazz music highlighted both the roots of jazz as well as the journey the genre has taken in the last decades. As Bryant said at the January 28, "Jazz has influenced the world, and the world has influenced jazz." They interacted with students at Sabarmati Ashram on January 27 morning and then performed a free public concert at the Darpana Academy for Performing Arts. A second public concert is at National Institute of Design (NID) on January 28 at 7 pm. Members of the public are also invited to a free workshop at the Ahmedabad Management Association, "Music as a stress-evading art," on January 28 at 10 am.
