Poetry for Social Change

U.S. Consul General Paul Folmsbee felicitated celebrated lyricist Gulzar at the inauguration of the three-day Disability Awareness Program at the American Center on July 26, 2010, during the online and interactive Hindi and Urdu poetry contest organized by American Center, Mumbai.

First-place winners were Anil Kumar Jeengar and Mohit Kataria.  Runners-up were Syed Zeeshan Ali and Neelam Saxena Chandra.  Mohamed Farooque Abdul Rehman, Imran Surti, Harikiran Gill, and Zaheer Ali were placed as finalists.  The winners and runners-up received ipods and all the finalists received American Library memberships and promotional items, as well as a copy of “Leaves of Grass” by famed American poet Walt Whitman.  All received certificates signed by U.S. Consul General Paul A. Folmsbee and Shri Gulzar at the prize distribution ceremony held at the American Center on July 26, 2010.

Disability Awareness Program July 26-28 at the American Center

The public is invited to attend the American Center’s three-day Disability Awareness Program July 26-28 at the American Center in Churchgate.  Shri Gulzar will be the Chief Guest at the Inauguration at 10:30 am on July 26.  U.S. Consul General Paul A. Folmsbee will also officiate.   They will also announce the award winners of the Center’s “Poetry for Social Change” Hindi and Urdu poetry contest.  A panel discussion on “Disability and the Media” will follow the inauguration at 11:45 am.  On July 26, 27, and 28, there will be a documentary film screening related to disability issues at 3 pm.   Different experts will introduce each disability-related film as well as moderate a panel discussion following.  For more information, please contact Irene Fernandes – 22624590 Extn. 2202.
