The American Center partnered with the South Indian Education Society’s College of Arts and Science and the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (Western Region) for a three-day seminar on “Countering Terrorism in India - Challenge of the 21st Century” August 31-September 2, 2009.

Acting Consul General David Tyler inaugurated the event.  The other panel members included Ajit Kumar Doval, former Director Intelligence Bureau; Vikram Sood, former Director RAW; V.N. Deshmukh, former Chief of State Intelligence Department; V. Balachandran, former Diplomat of Indian Mission, Washington D.C.; K.P. Raghuvanshi, Additional Commissioner of Police, Anti-Terrorism Squad; and Sadanand Date, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Heather Collins of the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and Michael Newbill, Economic-Political Section Chief at the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai were also speakers.  Collins talked about the Patriot Act and Newbill on the U.S. Government’s efforts to counter terrorism.
