Immigrant visa processing updates

Change for applicants being interviewed

The U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai, is pleased to announce that each immigrant and K visa applicant scheduled for an interview on and after November 1, 2006, must submit the required documents as mentioned in the appointment package, a clear photocopy of all pages of his current and expired passports and a clear copy of his appointment letter, to a VFS office no earlier than fifteen working days and no less than ten working days prior to his interview.  Applicants whose interviews have been scheduled on and after May 1, 2007, should submit the aforesaid to a VFS office no earlier than ten working days and no less than seven working days prior to the interview. Exception: applicants submitting documents to VFS Kolkata should do so fifteen working days prior to the interview.  Failure to submit his documents within the required working days prior to his interview may result in the loss of his interview date.

VFS will issue a receipt for the documents and the passport(s) will be returned to the applicant.

Applicants should not submit their documents in parts; they should submit all the required documents together.

Change in police clearance certificate requirements for the state of Gujarat

Most applicants are required to present a police clearance certificate (PCC) from the district police station with jurisdiction over their residence.  (See this page or our appointment package for detailed instructions.)  However, our office has been informed that certain police districts in the state of Gujarat no longer issue such clearances.  Applicants who live in such districts should present only a police clearance certificate from their local passport office in lieu of a police clearance certificate from their district police station.  In addition, they must still provide any police certificates for time spent outside of India, as required.

These guidelines apply only to residents of the state of Gujarat.  All other applicants are required to fully comply with the standard guidelines.
