Nonimmigrant Visas

As of January 19th, 2010, all nonimmigrant visa (NIV) applicants in India must use the new DS-160 web-based application. We no longer accept forms DS-156, 157 or 158.

How to Apply Using the DS-160

1. Access the form
DS-160 here.

2. Scan and upload your application photo that meets the specifications.

3. Complete your DS-160 application online (Save often!) Answer questions as thoroughly as possible before submitting-- incomplete forms may not be accepted.

4. Print barcode at the end of the application on a laser printer, as ink-jet or dot-matrix printers do not print with sufficient resolution for the bar code to work.

5. Pay the visa application fee (at the current exchange rate) at one of the designated branches of the HDFC Bank.

6. Make your appointment through VFS. You will use your barcode and fee receipt number to schedule an appointment.

7. Drop off the necessary documents at the VFS office in Mumbai, Pune or Ahmedabad three business days prior to your appointment date.
