Consul General Visits USAID-Supported Center
U.S. Consul General Paul Folmsbee and his wife Juanita visited ASHRAY, a residential care center supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) for orphaned and vulnerable children infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS, on August 5. The crisis center is run by Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT) in Mumbai. A highlight of the visit was the welcome dance performed by the children themselves. The CCDT staff explained the functioning of the center and gave the Folmsbees a tour. The event provided the Consul General with the opportunity to see the direct impact of a portion of USAID’s $22 million funds dedicated to HIV/AIDS-related projects and activities. Chargé d’Affaires meets with Seeds of Peace Alumni in Mumbai
Chargé d’Affaires Steven J. White and Consul General Paul Folmsbee welcomed 12 Indian Seeds of Peace 2008 campers who recently returned from the United States after participating in a three week international camp in Maine. Seeds of Peace is an intensive conflict resolution program for young minds from different regions of conflict. It seeks to shape a future generation of leaders, empowering them with the skills required to advance reconciliation and peaceful coexistence in their respective environments. "The Department of State has been supporting the participation of Indian and Pakistani youth in Seeds of Peace for the last seven years. It is a powerful program that has a life-changing impact on the youth participants as well as their communities, and we are proud to be involved," Chargé d’Affaires Steven J. White said. The Seeds of Peace event was a highlight of the Chargé’s two-day visit to Mumbai. While in the city, he met with a range of business, cultural, government and NGO leaders. U.S. Condemns Terrorist Attacks in Bangalore and Ahmedabad, July 27, 2008
The United States condemns the vicious terrorist attacks in Bangalore on Friday and Ahmedabad on Saturday. We extend our condolences to the victims of these senseless criminal attacks and to their families.

United States Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank Vice President Ray Ellis and India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited Chairman S.S. Kohli sign a memorandum of understanding regarding financing support for Indian buyers of U.S. exports in New Delhi on August 22, 2008. IIFCL is one of the original eight partners for the Ex-Im India Infrastructure Facility, now valued at US $2.45 billion.
